Colorfully, Behr reader Cathy asked us about paint and trim colors for the exterior of his house. Read Erika’s advice below!
My husband and I purchased a home which is a Cape style. It has cedar siding stained in brown, trim in a creamy ivory with a tinge of yellow and a green (forest) metal roof. The home has a “log cabin” look to it with the style and choice of dark brown siding, but I would like to brighten it up with perhaps a solid gray/green stain and milk white trim. I think it would look good with the natural stone chimney. Ordinarily, I wouldn’t think twice about the house color, but I have never had to coordinate with a green metal roof!
I would appreciate your suggestions.
Thanks!
Cathy

Hi Cathy,
Yes, you are correct. A forest green metal roof will have some determination on color for the wood siding of your house; however, you are not completely limited! A light gray-green might be a good color option, especially if there is stone-work on the chimney.
You could also do a warm gray with white trim, such as:
For now I am leaning towards this light gray-green color:
Or, if you are looking for a lighter brown color to coordinate and contrast with the roof, have a look at either of these warm tans:
All of these colors can be found in the Behr Ultra paint palette, and custom tinted into Behr wood stain products.
Let me know what you think. If you are able to send a photo of your home that would be terrific for helping make a determination.
Colorfully yours,
Erika
